My Submission to the "Black is NOT a Colour" art show.  I'll be attending the open house, so feel free to stop by and say hey.  While you're there you can check out the plethora of fantastic work that will be on display!

About the piece:

I'd been itching to do some work in traditional media, so I took this as an opportunity to push myself into some not so familiar territory.  I decided to break out the ink and brushes, and used a combination of ink, ink wash, and watercolour to paint this.  I'm not the most confident with a brush, but it definitely feels incredibly satisfying to push some ink around with them.  It looks pretty damn awesome in a frame with some sexy matting around it though!   I'll try and get a higher res scan up at some point.  I apologize for the terribly lit photo.

Did this marker rendering for fun, mainly to get some practice with pen and ink, and rendering with Markers.   I'd like to apologize for the crappy photos of the final image, I took them at night in poor lighting, as it tends to hide all the flaws a lot easier.  ;)  I currently don't own a scanner, but should hopefully be acquiring a nice big one soon enough!   Then I shall reupload a properly lit version, for the emperor!

I realized after rendering out his boots that I needed a better range of blues to really capture that Ultramarine flare(and more subtle value shifts), but I did the best I could with what I had.

Its been a lot of fun busting out the old marker set, I hope to do more of these in the future.

Thanks for stopping by!

Just arrived back from Fanexpo 2011, and what an experience it turned out to be this year!
Jen and I saw a lot of familiar faces, and met a whole bunch of new ones. We had the pleasure of being table mates with a fantastic and diverse group of people and definitely enjoyed their company.

Jen and I at our table in the Artist Alley.

"Seasonal Beauties" a 2012 pinup calender created and organized by Kyu-Bum Lee, featuring art by Kyu, myself, Adam Hines, Andrew Murray, Andrew Wilson, Angela Kim, Debbie Yu, Allison Neil, Wayne-Michael Lee, Leeann Dufour, Ben Thomas and Amanda Stocker, debuted this past weekend at Fanexpo! We will be selling the remaining copies online, so feel free to contact me if you are interested in a copy!

You can find photos of this beautiful Calender here, courtesy of the affable Ben Thomas.

The Table Mates!

Dino Caruso - is a fantastic comic writer with a love for crime noir comics. He has a story featured in the graphic novel "Acts of Violence" and is an all around great guy. I was fortunate enough to get a copy of Acts of Violence from him, and will definitely be picking up more of his work in the future.

Michael Nelson - is a toronto based fine art painter with an education from Sheridan's animation program. He is an extremely energetic and outgoing individual whose work captivated many of the convention attendees.

Familiar Faces!

Stephen Daymond - the creator of the webcomic, Specimen B-28, which is based off of his short film he created while he was at Sheridan. I absolutely loved his film, and the webcomic has done a great job of continuing and fleshing out the universe he has created.

Laurie B. - is an artist based out of Western Canada who creates adorable pinups featuring everyone's favourite pop culture characters. She is incredibly talented and an extraordinary person to meet.

Mike Boldt - is a Children's book Illustrator also based out of Western Canada. He is an extremely humble and down to earth artist with an amazing selection of work and the finest looking prints I've ever seen. Always great to see more of his work.

I also met Lubomir Arsov who is an insanely skilled artist. Mindblowing stuff. Literally, my mind was blown. Love his work!

Close friends and all around great guys, Andrew "Murrman" Murray, and Adam Hines, the Guys with pencils podcast creators were also in attendance, along with Jeff Thompson, Lisa Bell, Martin Sokol, Ben Thomas, Perry Osuna, and many more were also kicking around over the weekend.
It was GREAT seeing you all again! OH how I miss Toronto!

Here are some fun drawings I did during the convention this time!

I definitely have been trying to channel some Kirby lately, and the show I'm currently animating on is rubbing off on my artistic style big time. Sexily. Like hotcakes. Lovin it, like McDonalds.

Here's a sneak peek at some print's I'm frantically trying to get ready for FANEXPO 2011! I'll be at table A84 with my girlfriend, Jennifer Tisdale selling a collection of old and new work. Looking forward to seeing everyone again!

These are both still in the inking stage, but coming along nicely.

A good friend and co worker of mine, Kyu-Bum Lee has hooked me up with some screen recording software, which I hope to put to use making some videos of my animation or drawing if anyone is interested. I can't give a time frame on when that stuff will be posted, but hopefully within the next few months!

**EDIT: Put the right table number in.

Sketchbook doodles done around March.
I still prefer the pencil to the stylus, nothing beats it in my opinion.

I apologize for neglecting the blog, I do have some of my latest work that I am preparing to post.
A big thank you for anyone who has stuck around this long!

Wizard World Comic Convention 2011

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending the 2011 Wizard World Comic Convention at the Direct Energy Centre in Toronto.

The convention was only the 2nd one I've ever attended as a member of the Artist Alley, but it has once again proved to be an absolute blast to be a part of. The show got off to a slow start on Friday, but was packed all day Saturday and most of Sunday. Jen and I met a lot of great people during the show, and had the opportunity to reconnect with some familiar faces. We were table buddies with some good friends from Sheridan College, whose work you can check out here!
